“Why do we work?”

Why is that we want to get up early in morning, navigate the traffic snarl and reach office every day rather than just doing whatever we like ( In my case it would be Netflix and box after box of pizzas).

When this question is asked, most of us do not give the answer “To make ends meet” or “To earn money”. Our answer would be that this work we are doing is challenging,  engaging along with a plethora of other adjectives. But how many of us would do the same work if we are not paid to do it? Most of us would. Therein lies the rub. Why do we soul-deadening work?
